Diplomats from Britain, the United States and France today (1 March) walked out of the UN Conference following Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov’s video message.

In Lavrov’s video message, the foreign minister stated he did not attend in-person due to the “outrageous measures” put in place by the European Union.

“Members of the European Union have chosen the path of unilateral illegitimate sanctions, using them to evade the direct honest face-to-face dialogue that they clearly fear,” Lavrov said.

Instead, diplomats stood outside of the meeting and held a Ukrainian flag in support of Ukraine. This follows the invasion of Ukraine by Russia on Thursday (24 February).
