Compass’ coffee making supervisor Laska Goldsack is through to the global final of the Costa Coffee Barista of the Year competition.

Goldsack, a supervisor at the Compass run Costa outlet at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham, booked her spot in the final by being crowned the best barista from Costa’s 330 UK corporate franchise run stores.

Goldsack’s speciality coffee is called ’ristretto salato’ and consists of a single ristretto, a very short shot of espresso, a coffee and almond cream and a drizzle of salted caramel.

“It’s an honour to win and it will be interesting to compete on an international level and see what other baristas have created for their speciality drink,” says Goldsack.

Andy Jones, Operations Director at Compass, adds: “The Costa Barista of the Year competition is a terrific initiative and a big draw card with lots of countries being represented. Laska is talented and hardworking and it’s great that she can take her coffee making genius to the international stage.”

Taking place in London on 23 October, the global final will see 12 finalists from as far afield as China, India, Dubai, Poland and the UK compete head to head. The final winner will receive a trip for two to a coffee growing region, including spending money and the Barista of the Year Trophy for 2012.
