Compass Group UK chefs win 29 awards at World Culinary Olympics

Hospitality and contract caterer Compass Group UK and Ireland has returned from the World Culinary Olympics with 29 awards.
 
The 23rd edition of the global culinary contest saw 45 nations and over 5,000 professional chefs compete from 6-9 October in Erfurt, Germany.  
 
The only contract caterer in the UK with a presence at the competition, Compass, had eight UK chefs taking part individually as well as in the English and Scottish national teams. These eight individual chefs came away with nine awards including one gold medal, three silver medals, three bronze medals and two diplomas.
 
Making up half of the 10-strong English National Culinary team were five Compass chefs from across its business, with Nick Vadis, Executive Chef for Compass Group UK and Ireland, co-captaining the team.
 
The team won silver in the Hot Kitchen and bronze in the Cold Buffet, with Compass chefs totting up a total of 10 awards between them, consisting of five silver and five bronze medals.
 
Five chefs from Compass in Scotland also competed in Germany as part of the Scottish National Culinary team, made up of 10 chefs. Graham Singer, Food Operations Manager for ESS Offshore, captained the team. Between them these five Compass chefs collected 10 awards including five silver and five bronze medals.
 
Compass Group generated annual revenues of £15.8bn in the year to 30 September 2011, with £1.95bn of revenue in the UK and Ireland.
