Creative events agency, Chew Events, has partnered with SEED (Support and Empathy for people with Eating Disorders) as an on-going charity partner.

Founded by Gemma Oaten’s parents Marg and Dennis, SEED’s mission is to provide a network of care, support and advice for individuals personally affected by Eating Disorders (ED) as well as their family and friends.

Commenting on the partnership, Matthew Curran (pictured), director, Chew Events, said: “We are proud to be working in partnership with SEED to ensure they can sustain the amazing and essential services they provide to every person that needs them.

“Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any other mental health illness, with one in five dying as a direct result of the eating disorder or by taking their own life. With our backing, we can help SEED do its best to ensure that no one falls through the cracks.”

Raising awareness

Through the partnership, Chew Events aims to raise awareness of ED in the events industry and corporate industries.

Chew Events also has various initiatives in place to support its own staff. For example, the agency’s Mental Health First Aider has undertaken training in all areas of mental health, including further in-depth ED awareness training with SEED.

“This enables them to identify when a team member could be struggling and how to have conversations about eating disorders and support them. Team members also know they can go to this person if they have any worries they may like to discuss,” a Chew Events spokesperson added.
