Conference and events centre Central Hall Westminster has revealed it was transformed into a grand Parisian Hotel for the blockbuster movie RED2, which will be released in August.
The original cast includes Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, John Malkovich, and is joined by actors Catherine Zeta-Jones and Anthony Hopkins. The first movie grossed over £130m worldwide in 2011.
Central Hall Westminster says the venue was identified as the ideal film location for the sequel with its marble flooring, spacious hallways and high ceilings key characteristics by producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura and location manager Martin Joy.
The Great Hall Foyer overlooking the Great Staircase is usually used for corporate event receptions, but was adapted for a key scene in the movie, when the protagonists meet the head of the Russian secret service. In addition, the 2,000-seat capacity concert and conference auditorium, the Great Hall, functioned as a backstage, make up and wardrobe space.
“The fact that Central Hall is getting more and more involved in quirky long-term projects such as Balcony TV, a monthly music show promoting artists live from London’s balconies or such film projects, shows the flexibility of this 100-year-old venue,” says Marketing Manager at Central Hall Westminster, Maria Schuett.
Paul Southern, the venue’s Marketing Director, adds: “We host seminars and large assemblies for clients such as Barclays and Amazon but in recent years we have re-established a strong reputation for special events and public concerts.”
