Central Hall Westminster, a London based conference and events centre, has hosted ‘The World of Work Day’, organised by Yes Futures, an education charity for students.
The event aimed to provide insight into the events industry and encourage the future generation of talent. It was attended by more than 30 pupils from Langley Academy, located near Slough.
White Light, an AV company, also supported the event, as Central Hall Westminster’s production partners.
Students had the opportunity to explore room set-ups, porterage and security, alongside a demonstration of the systems.
They also had an interactive AV session, which included presentations on the production processes for high-profile events.
Helen Smith, head of programmes, Yes Futures, commented: “Our World of Work partners, like Central Hall Westminster, play a significant role in developing the aspirations and confidence of our students.
Smith added: “Through this immersive experience day, 30 young people will have their eyes opened to the breadth of future opportunities available to them and will begin to shape their own career ideas. In turn, this will help them to become more motivated to achieve at school.”
Jonjo Glynn, White Light’s Venues Director, said that there is a “widening skills gap, particularly in a technical capacity” which encouraged White Light to “collaborate with Central Hall Westminster for an outreach programme.”
Paul Southern, managing director, Central Hall Westminster, concluded: “It is of immense importance to encourage new generations into the thriving and diverse events industry which offers such a great variety of exciting and fulfilling roles. We are glad the pupils had a fantastic day and we hope we inspired them to join us in the industry.”
