A casino operator is gambling that furious residents
will not block its plans to open a Vegas style operation in west London.

Genting Casinos wants to create a 2,787sqm venue at the
Holiday Inn on Cromwell Road, South Kensington.

Under the plans being considered by
Kensington and Chelsea Council the casino would
take over the ground and first floors of the hotel and pull in 1,500 punters
every day.

A spokesman for Genting UK insisted the plans
involve “far more than just a casino”.

He said the scheme will include “a
high-quality restaurant and bar which will be open to members of the public”.

He said: “Genting has experience of operating
with care and consideration within residential areas and have procedures that
actively minimise potential for noise, particularly during the night and early
morning.”

But local resident Sabine Huehn has written to the council to say: “We already have a
problem with gangs, pimps, and brothels. With a casino these problems will only
increase.”

The council is due to make a decision
on the proposal next month.
