The International Cytokine & Interferon Society (ICIS) is due to take place at the Cardiff City Hall 17-20 October.

The medical conference is the world’s largest multidisciplinary organisation which aims to advance clinical research specific to the role of cytokines in health and disease.

The conference will take place in a hybrid format and will be hosted through a studio established in Cardiff City Hall.

The Meet in Cardiff team, who provide a free impartial service to conference organisers, have been working on this conference with the organiser for three years.

Professor Simon Jones, conference chair, Division of Infection & Immunity, The School of Medicine at Cardiff University, said: “It is an important time for the biomedical research community to come together to discuss the latest breakthroughs and insights. The meeting will provide an outstanding forum for investigators in basic science and clinical research to present their most recent findings on the role of cytokines in infection, cancer, allergy and immune-mediated inflammatory diseases”.

He added: “The conference is also being held at a particularly relevant time. Many of our colleagues were highly instrumental in developing some of the drugs used in the treatment of Covid-19, others have helped on the public view of the pandemic, such as local organising committee members, Professor Luke O’Neill from Trinity College Dublin and Professor Iain McInnes from Glasgow University”.

Faye Tanner, team manager, City of Cardiff Council, commented: “We are thrilled that this prestigious conference will be going ahead this October 2021 as planned, as venues and hotels in the city open up to accommodate business events following pandemic restrictions”.
