BTA reveals £3.18bn loss to UK GDP this week

The Business Travel Association (BTA), the authoritative voice of business travel in the UK, has today, 18 June, revealed the UK has lost £3.18bn in GDP this week due to the decline of business travel trips following Covid-19.

Data shows that in the second week of June 2021, business travel trips from the UK dropped by -67.72% from 2019 pre-pandemic levels – with a reduction of 366,018 business trips in the past week. The data shows travel restrictions to:

  • Republic of Ireland has cost UK GDP £753m this week
  • France has cost UK GDP £579m this week,
  • Switzerland has cost UK GDP £438m this week, and
  • USA has cost UK GDP £370m this week
