Brighton commended for working together for European Summit

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has commended VisitBrighton for the way the city and its events venues worked together to host the high profile meeting of European Ministers to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has commended city-wide convention bureau, VisitBrighton, for the way the city and its events venues worked together to host the high profile meeting of European Ministers to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
 
The event, held 18-20 April, attracted 400 delegates from the Council of Europe’s 47 member states. The conference represents over 800m citizens and discussed some of the most important topics and reforms within Europe.
 
The city was host to the Council of Europe’s main conference, ancillary activities and accommodation, during which the Brighton Declaration was signed.
 
The Brighton Museum hosted a reception for 250 delegates on 18 April, including the Heads of Delegation and other guests. A temporary exhibition was set up by the Ministry of Justice within the museum, which included a copy of the constitutional document, the Magna Carta.
 
The Royal Pavilion was the venue chosen for a private dinner for the Heads of Delegation on 19 April. A drinks reception was held in the Great Kitchen followed by dinner in the Banqueting Room. The 47 guests were also provided the chance to take a private tour of the Pavilion. Meanwhile, the Brighton Pierhosteda hosted a social event for the remaining 260 delegates.
 
The newly-refurbished Brighton Centre was home to the main conference on the future of the European Court of Human Rights in its 2,000sqm auditorium.
 
The Thistle Hotel was used as the headquarters for the Council of Europe Heads of Delegation, providing accommodation for two nights.
 
“With the delegation coming from across the whole of Europe, this conference has provided a perfect platform for us to showcase both the Brighton Centre and the city,” Head of Tourism and Leisure at Brighton and Hove City Council, Adam Bates, said.
