Bournemouth will host the British Association of Paediatric Surgeons’ (BAPS) 60th Anniversary Congress this month, 16-19 July 2013.

The four-day event is expected to attract 450 delegates and contribute an estimated £475,000 to the economy.

The congress makes it debut in Bournemouth and begins with an official civic welcome to the town from The Worshipful, The Mayor of Bournemouth, Councillor Rod Cooper. A scientific programme will follow with keynote lectures, guest speakers, free paper sessions, and debates with colleagues from across the UK.

There will also be an exhibition and delegate social programme to include the 60th Jubilee Annual Dinner at the Bournemouth Highcliff Marriott Hotel and a visit to the Beaulieu Motor Museum for the President’s reception.

“The BAPS annual congress takes place all over the UK on a cyclical basis and we began discussions with BAPS back in 2009 to bring their 60th anniversary Congress to Bournemouth,” says Conference and Exhibitions Manager at the Bournemouth International Centre (BIC), Sarah Stainer. “With support from ambassadors and Southampton General Hospital promoting the town and developing an excellent working relationship with the congress organiser, we were delighted to be selected as the host venue for this prestigious event.

“Throughout the congress, as well as attending a full programme inside the BIC, delegates are encouraged to explore the wider area with social events being organised outside the main venue. They are also invited to consider extending their visit after the event. This will enhance the overall delegate experience, generate positive feedback about the destination and hopefully encourage organisers to revisit Bournemouth again in the future,” she adds.
