Dedicated charity for the MICE industry Meeting Needs has appointed five new board members, in what will be a big year for the charity as it reaches the milestone of raising £1m in donations.

The high-profile appointees include Lene Corgan, head of business development UK/ Europe for The Copenhagen Convention Bureau; Brian Kirsch, formerly founder and managing director of Event Assured; Jason Wilcock, chairman of event and creative agency Worldspan plc; Harriet Bullen of international events agency FIRST; and David Dodgeon, director of Green Route.

Jennifer Jenkins, chair of Meeting Needs, says: “We are delighted to welcome our new board members, who will strengthen our team and help drive the charity forward in its next phase of growth and charitable giving”.

Jenkins went on to say: “We are passionate that the sector is recognised collectively for its social responsibilities, identifying worthy causes and ensuring that those most in need get help from the wider events industry, both in the UK and further afield.”

In the past six months, Meeting Needs has helped 13 charities, distributing £51,000, ranging from a grant to help widows in Uganda achieve a sustainable poultry business to a project that addresses issues affecting people with hearing loss, who are unable to access education and gainful employment.

As they attempt to raise their next million pounds, Meeting Needs is calling for more charity partners, fundraisers and those able to make gifts or donations to support fundraising initiatives, from within the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Events industry (MICE).
