Belfast among candidates for One Young World summit

Eight cities are in the running to host the influential summit in 2022 and 2023

One Young World, a forum that connects young leaders and aims to accelerate social impact, has announced the candidate host cities competing to host its annual summits in 2022 and 2023.

At the Summit, over 2,000 delegates from 190 countries are joined by political, business and humanitarian leaders. These previously included: Kofi Annan, Irish President Mary Robinson, Justin Trudeau, Emma Watson and the Duchess of Sussex.

The candidate host cities include:

  • Belfast, United Kingdom
  • Delhi, India
  • Dubai, United Arab Emirates
  • Kigali, Rwanda
  • Monterrey, Mexico
  • Montreal, Canada
  • San Jose, Costa Rica
  • Sao Paulo, Brazil

The final two winning cities will be announced in January 2020.

The One Young World 2019 Summit will also return to London, United Kingdom, for the 10th anniversary edition. It will take place 22-25 October 2019.

Our ambition is simple: to inspire young leaders from around the world in a city confidently looking to the future.”

Madhu Dubey, executive director of India Convention Promotion Bureau, said: “Delhi is the monumental city which boasts of an interesting mix of pristine charm and new-age technology. It outlines a rich diversity and heritage, an open and active economic environment, a pulsating art and culture scene and impressive state-of-the-art venues for conferences & conventions. With 50% of the population below the age of 35 years in India equipped with entrepreneurial skills and enthusiastic spirit, Delhi certainly is the perfect destination for the One Young World Summit 2022 and 2023.”

Maria Amalia Revelo, minister of tourism, said: “By bringing One Young World 2022 to Costa Rica, participants will get to experience not only one of the most intense places on earth, but also be assisted and cared for by one of the happiest populations that inhabits it.
