New Dock Hall, the new incarnation of the old Leeds Savile Hall venue managed by Royal Armouries International, kicked off its new events era by hosting The Radio Aire Style Awards.

“A great night was had by all and we felt honoured to be the first to use the New Dock Hall under its new name,” said Alex Morley, Marketing Manager for Radio Aire.

The radio station’s awards attracted hundreds of guests to see prize winners in the 15 categories.

Post-presentation entertainment was supplied by the BBC’s The Voice contestants, Tyler James and Frances Wood.

The venue had changed its name from Savile’s Hall to New Dock Hall following the scandal surrounding the late Jimmy Savile. The surrounding area is to be renamed New Dock following its purchase by the Allied London property company this year.

“The volume and nature of the allegations against Sir Jimmy really has made the name toxic,” said RAI Managing Director James Vincent. “We are pleased that we can now rename the venue and to associate it with New Dock, the new identity being created for the area.”

The £5m events space is the RAI’s biggest investment.
