Preliminary figures from Expo Management, the organiser of the Best of Britain and Ireland (BOBI) tourism show, show a five per cent increase in attendance.
“Our initial data shows total attendance at the show was 2,226, and total exhibitor numbers have been confirmed as 285, an increase of 11 per cent over 2011,” said Sam Warnock, Event Director.
The two-day tourism trade event was held at the NEC Birmingham last week and represented the largest gathering of tourism professionals to date this year from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. It was also part of English Tourism Week.
“We are delighted that the first phase of our initial three-year investment plan is already beginning to bring in results,” said Warnock.”
Warnock said 4,300 meetings were arranged during the show, an average of over 15 per exhibitor.
“The Minister’s Q&A event organised by The Tourism Society and including John Penrose MP, UK Minister for Tourism and Heritage, and Leo Varadkar TD Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport for the Republic of Ireland along with senior representatives from the major tourism organisations of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, was extremely popular,” she added.
Expo Management, the BOBI show organiser, has confirmed the dates for the 2013 BOBI show will be 13-14 March.
