The Association of Black Event Professionals (ABEP) has recently launched (31 January).
Founded by Nadu Placca (pictured), Nicole Wallace-White and Aaron Raybe, the association represents Black individuals, businesses and suppliers within the events industry.
In July 2021, The Zoo XYZ published Black in the Boardroom (BITB), a report which explores racial disparity within the UK events industry. The report analysed 15 UK event trade bodies and associations with a focus on Black professionals within these organisations, and found there are no Black professionals in senior, board or leadership positions.
The Association of Black Event Professionals was born out of this report. “It strives to be a space for Black professionals of all levels of experience within the events industry to learn, network and thrive within the industry,” says Placca, founder of The Zoo XYZ.
The association is currently offering its original members free access to the platform. Eventprofs have two weeks to register and claim their free year.
