Barbican Business Events General Manager Anthony Hyde is to step down from the role on 7 February, 2014 “to pursue other projects within the meetings and events sector”.

The process of replacing the role is being led by Chief Operating and Financial Officer Sandeep Dwesar. The venue team says further details will be announced in due course.

Hyde joined the Barbican in 2001 as Business Development Manager. Since then he has risen to the role of GM of Barbican Business Events. During his time at the London City venue, he has significantly grown the centre’s commercial offering in the meetings and events sectors, with the 2012/2013 financial year achieving record breaking sales and profitability.

Sandeep Dwesar said: “Anthony has transformed the Barbican’s commercial offering during his time in charge of Barbican Business Events. His impact goes beyond the organisation’s commercial success to include significant changes to the way we work, such as the establishment of close links to the Barbican’s artistic and creative learning departments. These changes have led to a whole new offering from the Barbican, allowing us to influence not just the physical space where an event takes place but also an event’s content, creativity, learning outcomes and return on investment. Anthony remains in charge of the Barbican Business Events team and we will continue working closely together during the coming months.”

“Working at the Barbican has been an incredibly fulfilling role,” said Hyde. “It has allowed me to grow both personally and professionally within an exciting and creative environment. During my time at the Barbican, the meetings and events industry has seen significant changes and growth, which we have continually responded to. Now is the right time for me to seek a new challenge and I leave the Barbican confident that it will remain the UK’s most creative events venue under Sandeep’s leadership and my incredibly professional team.”
