Event organisers have learned from the experts how to deal with a mid-air emergency.

Staff at BI Worldwide were put through simulations of emergency situations by Virgin Atlantic Trainer Matt Whipp.

The exercise was part of the events team training and development programme at the Virgin Atlantic training facility, The Base, near Gatwick Airport.

The session gave the staff the chance to understand and explore an airline’s approach and to understand how that links into our own emergency processes.

Georgie Hunt, one of BIW’s Delivery Project Managers, said: “After our day of training with Virgin Atlantic I feel so much more confident in my ability to deal with a potential emergency on board a flight. We learned how we can use our crisis handling skills as event managers to aid the airline crew in ensuring that our passengers are as safe as possible.

The training took place in a fun and relaxed environment without trivialising the subjects we were dealing with. This enabled us to take in the lessons about what are potentially very critical circumstances in a really positive manner”.

Rachel Belliere-Wilson who had devised the day’s content said: “They were the perfect partner to launch our training initiative with – neither of our businesses allows ourselves to get too hung up on the cheapest or fastest way of doing something, we think about the most amazing way of doing it”.
