World Karate and Kickboxing Commission (WKC) is set to return to Aberdeen’s AECC on 5 May 2019 when the Aberdeen Open Tournament comes to the North East venue.
Kickboxing teams from Canada and USA are among the 1,000 competitors expected to compete at the event.
Louise Stewart, Head of Entertainment at AECC/TECA commented: “We are delighted to welcome back WKC to the North East of Scotland, and the vast amount of competitors from all over the world who have already signed up is outstanding. Attracting a major sporting event to the North East, is something we look forward to continuing to bring to our new venue The Event Complex Aberdeen (TECA) which opens next summer and brings the very best of live experiences.”
TECA is Scotland’s new £333m events venue scheduled to open in 2019. The development, being delivered by Aberdeen City Council in partnership with Henry Boot Developments, will replace the Aberdeen Exhibition Conference and Centre (AECC) with 48,000sqm of multi-purpose event space, and will boast world-class conference and exhibition halls, a superior arena, spacious hospitality boxes and a high-end restaurant.
