French hospitality company Accor is fast out of the Olympic legacy blocks with plans to open four hotels in London in October. The programme is expected to create 170 jobs across an Ibis and Novotel in Blackfriars, an Ibis in Shepherd’s Bush and a Mercure in Greenwich (located within the converted 1930s Maruice Drummond House, a building which won RIBA’s London Architectural Medal in 1946).

The openings will take Accor’s properties in the capital to 53 offering 9,000 bedrooms.

Accor UK & Ireland MD Thomas Dubaere, said: “Accor has treated this important year as a strategic opportunity to boost our presence in the UK’s capital by investing in upcoming areas to ensure a long-term legacy for 2012 and beyond.”

One hotel brand not doing so well is budget chain Travelodge, which has been seeking a rescue deal from creditors.

One proposal is to slash rental payments to landlords of 100 hotels.

The group, which operates 500 hotels across the UK, Ireland and Spain, employs 6,000 staff and is proposing to offload 49 properties to other operators.
