Three members of the Events for Namuwongo Steering Committee have just returned from a visit to the Ugandan slum (21 – 23 August). Tracy Bebbington (UBM), Claire Comery (Tarsus) and Malene Stanley (GES), spent two days meeting people in the community and getting to grips with the extensive work and transformation taking place there thanks to massive fundraising effort by the events industry.

Events for Namuwongo is partnership of people and companies within the events industry who have come together to support this community by not only adopting them, but caring for this community to create real change for those who live there. Thanks to money raised by the events industry the project fund is employing 150 people in the community. To date over 3km of drains cleared and thousands of tonnes of rubbish removed. 1.3km of these have now been lined. De-silting teams keeping up with the daily maintenance and another 1.2 tonnes of recycling sorted and sold in recent months.

There are plenty of ways to get involved with Events for Namuwongo including the opportunity to Sponsor a Child. £20 a month will enable a vulnerable child to go to school and give them a meaningful future.
