Another rollercoaster ride in the MICE industry this week has brought us takeovers to the return of the King.
Here’s 10 things we learned this week.
1. A lot of people have been bullied
We were shocked to hear that over half of people surveyed by Lumi have said they’ve been treated poorly in meetings, with some even saying they’ve been physically abused.
2. IMEX America sets a new record
We’ve kind of summed it up in the sub-heading there. But to find out what that record might actually be, you’ll have to read on. Oh, and Elvis was definitely there.
3. The word “association” is used a lot
The word “association” is common the MICE industry, but we took it to the next level by using it four times in the opening paragraph of this story. Want to find out who made the shortlist of Association of Association Executives Associations Awards UK?
4. Peyton have been sold
Peyton Events being sold to Sodexo caught a lot of us by surprise. It looks like a stable future is in store.
5. Paperless tickets?
The machines are coming, and who can stop them? Certainly not Inntel, in fact, they’re championing it. A new mobile rail ticketing scheme is being rolled out to make business travellers’ lives easier.
6. Data comes cheap
Data is driving down the cost of events and changing the way they are run. This is the opinion of Hire Space co-founder and COO Ed Poland.
7. Drapin’
Discussing four ways to transform your venue, Reg Evans, MD of Evans Audio Visual Staging says drapes can be a quick and easy way to create an entirely different use of space. We tried it in the office.
8. The Little Train That Could
The National Railway Museum has come out and said it’s seen an increase of 24% in night package sales.
9. Lord Richard Attenborough is still the man
The late Lord Richard Attenborough is still revered by Chelsea FC, and together with BAFTA he is to be honoured to help his Foundation.
10. Blackpool’s back
Once the city of choice for political party conferences, Blackpool has seen a lull in recent years, but this week it came out said we should all expect to see a resurgence.
