This summer, London will host the biggest sporting event in the
world and the excitement and energy in and around London is electric.
While the arrival of tourists and spectators will provide a massive
opportunity to capture extra trade, it will also put a greater strain on
an already stretched transport system, which will certainly be under
the media spotlight throughout this period.
We, as a group, recently
released an opinion-based report, which looks at how London is set to
handle the influx of people over the busiest period this summer. Huge
campaigns have already been implemented to try and reduce the number of
commuters in London during the busiest two week period (29 July to 9
August). Such measures have included transport bosses advising a third
of Londoners to work from home and providing heat maps displaying the
exceptionally busiest times at various different stations, highlighting
the best time to travel.
When reviewing the resources available,
it could be suggested that with a wait of about 90 minutes for a train,
commuters travelling in and out of London could lose up to three
working days, waiting for trains, over this busy two week period with
motorists possibly facing expected delays of up to 1,221 minutes over
this same period.
To prevent London coming to a standstill, a
number of businesses including us have taken the initiative to
alleviate its customers from being unable to access required services,
so that business can remain as usual. Video conferencing facilities
combined with social media facilities and live events capabilities will
enable delegates to avoid unnecessary disruption due to travel delays
during this period. Measures such as these will ensure that essential
meetings continue to take place and on time, no matter what the
transport situation is.
Summer is approaching fast and what will
become clear is that with much at stake in terms of business
productivity and time lost due to delays in travel, businesses need to
invest in the necessary options and technology to ensure little
disruption is incurred during this period.
