Daydream Believer Edgar King, Events Manager of Trinity House,
gives the first of an occasional series of views from the venue bridge.
Trinity
House bedecked in alpine paraphernalia (while starring as Austria House
over the Olympics) is fading from memory and I’m now dreaming of
garlands of holly and dancing Christmas trees as arrangements for
seasonal decorations come to the fore.
But the really big event
I now find myself musing over, at all hours, is the planning of the
celebration in 2014 of the 500th anniversary of the Corporation of
Trinity House, which dates back to the granting by King Henry VIII of a
Royal Charter to the charitable guild of mariners. Trinity House is home
to the General Lighthouse Authority as well as an operating venue.
Already
I’m fussing over the selection, purchase and storage of vintage wines
and Madeira, including vintage ‘Old Trinity House Bual’, if I can find
enough of it. I’d enjoy a ‘quality control’ review of those!
I’m
also fielding enquiries for external bookings for corporate events and
weddings around prospective in-house ceremonies (such as the re-election
of the Master, currently HRH The Princess Royal).
In the
meantime, I’m constantly deliberating ways to promote the House to
private bookers, especially those with an interest in maritime matters,
as there can certainly be few themed settings more apt or elegant than
Trinity House.
