There
are a myriad of venues on the market, each with their own quirks and
uniqueness, but also each with very different standards of service,
products and facilities. Some venues are managed by non-industry people
with no experience in hospitality business and customer service, others
compensate for this by trying to win awards and be part of high level
consortiums.
If I ruled the events industry I would implement a
rating system for venues to distinguish the different level of service
received at the vast amount of venues in the UK. Much like the hotel
star ratings in the hospitality industry, the rating would allow bookers
to easily choose the right standard of venue for the right type of
event, at the right price.
With my rating system for venues
idea, clients would be able to see value for money at first glance.
Higher rated properties would be able to offer higher prices and ratings
would ensure minimum standards are adhered to and regularly checked. In
my event world ratings would be international so DMCs can book with
confidence in any country.
Clients are currently not comparing
like-for-like and therefore expect unrealistic pricing, I believe
adopting the rating system would make life easier for all involved.
