Down in Croydon the party season 2012 is well underway and our
Town Centre hotels and venues are packed with revellers revelling. Being
involved in the enjoyment-and-leisure sector is definitely the most fun
aspect of working for a conference bureau. Who doesn’t enjoy a spot of
party-planning, after all?
Good times are to be had on the night as well,
we get to spot the most unlikely people shaking their booty down to the
ground and giggle as Tina from Accounts (somewhat taken with wine,
allegedly) determinedly gives the eye to Jack from HR.
Which got
me thinking about Destination Croydon’s Best and Worst Christmas
Moments. Right now there’s an increasingly feverish hunt underway for
£800 worth of mysteriously-missing seasonal bunting, for riotous
entertainment, this beats a game of Cluedo every time. Our fabulous
roller-skating Christmas puddings have captivated thousands of shoppers
in Croydon Town Centre; who says that seasonal food can’t help keep you
trim? And just last week, the original line-up of Buck’s Fizz raised the
roof at a Jury’s Inn bash, looking youthfully well-preserved and
helping us forget that the skirt-ripping and decision-making
difficulties experienced by Bobby, Cheryl, Mike and Jay took place in
(gulp) 1981.
Sadly, however, it’s not quite good will to all
men. Although no Croydon schoolchild blinks an eye at a multi-ethnic
team of elves assisting a Santa Claus who definitely does not hail from
the North Pole, following a corporate children’s party one of my
colleagues did receive a rather un-festive phone call on this subject. That definitely classified as a Worst Moment.
Destination
Croydon is looking forward to 2013 with confidence. Biggest news so far
is an international Indian music festival in May, along with plenty
more leads which I’ll follow up after my turkey has digested and my head
has cleared. Our goal, a year of success for all our Destination
Croydon partners, so that next year’s party people can enjoy an even
bigger, better Croydon Christmas.
I hope everyone will drink to that. Make mine a Buck’s Fizz. Merry Christmas!
