Dundee’s £1bn facelift of its Wateont area, which includes a new event space at the V&A at Dundee, is roughly at the halfway point, with some of the new boulevards soon to open to traffic.
Council officials have also welcomed the rise of a new open space venue ’phoenix’ suitable for staging concerts which, locals hope, could rival Glasgow’s Hydro Arena.
Will Dawson, convener of Dundee City Council’s city development committee tells CN: “The Central Wateont is the focal point of the £1bn regeneration project involving the demolition of bridge ramps, roads and buildings which previously separated the city centre from the wateont.
“In their place, a new grid iron street pattern, green civic space and attractive boulevards will reconnect the city with the wateont to produce a stunning space that will be dominated by the award-winning V&A at Dundee.
“The 10,738sqm green civic space has been designed to provide a flexible area easily adaptable for multiple uses including events and celebrations.”
