The Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC) has told Conference News that reports of “serious cash flow issues” are untrue.
Local reports in Edinburgh had said that there were “serious concerns” about the centre’s future with council officials raising doubts about EICC’s commercial permance following a £30m extension, which doubled capacity when it opened last year.
However, the EICC says that the future outlook for the centre is in line with the initial 30-year projection and that the initial under-par permance by the venue was down to construction issues which forced some conferences to be cancelled due to “uncertainty”.
An EICC spokesman added: “Our major expansion helped us deliver a record economic impact to our host city-region of £50.4m in 2013. Longer duration international events with greater delegate numbers have been attracted to Edinburgh by our new world-beating facilities.
“Earlier development delays have caused some forecast revenues to be deferred but we welcome the independent review of our business plans and will be active participants in the process,” he continued.
EICC’s new 3,500sqm extension was open from March 2013 last year. The bulk of the new extension is below ground level and provides a variety of floor configurations.
Earlier this year, EICC hosted a Business Awards for 1,900.
