The London venue consortium, South Bank Venues, has appointed Charley Taylor-Smith as its new Chair, following elections in October 2013.

Taylor-Smith will take up the role in November 2013, for two years, succeeding Froniga Lambert, Head of Events at the Southbank Centre, who has been Chair since 2010.

She started her career by completing three ski/summer seasons as a resort representative in the French Alps and host on a catamaran on the Costa Brava, Spain. After returning, she proceeded to work for three years as a freelance event manager with a number of outdoor catering companies in London, including Mustard, Smart Hospitality and Moving Venue. Taylor-Smith has also worked at the Best Parties Ever and Tapenade.

In 2012 Charley was invited back to the National Theatre, accepting the position of Head of Hospitality and Events. As part of her current role, she is in charge of planning and delivering events throughout the NT’s hire spaces, restaurants and numerous bars.

“Charley’s considerable experience as a successful event organiser and commitment to South Bank as a destination make her the ideal candidate to lead the group in the implementation of its expansion plans and strategies,” Head of Marketing for South Bank Venues/South Bank Marketing Group, Claudio Giambrone, said.

Charley Taylor-Smith takes the lead position at South Bank Venues as the Group embarks on a new strategy aimed at further establishing its reputation as a collective representing some iconic venues in London, including the EDF Energy London Eye, BFI IMAX, Southbank Centre and OXO Tower Wharf.
