The annual Enjoy Staffordshire Awards has given Keele University Conferences and Events (KUCE) Gold in the Business Tourism category.

Run by Destination Staffordshire, the annual awards are part of the national Enjoy England Awards for Excellence and acknowledge the huge importance of the meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions sector of the tourism industry.

Keele impressed the judges with its commitment to business tourism across the board, from providing “first-class facilities to delivering outstanding customer service”.

KUCE now has a 13-strong events management team who last year welcomed more than 120,000 visitors onto campus, including 10,000 residential delegates, 20,000 wedding guests and over 30,000 day delegates.

During the last two years, the university has made improvements to its facilities across campus including the refurbishment of Keele Hall, Keele’s 19th century, Grade-II listed building, as well as the university’s central campus complex, which now features new seminar rooms and a renovated exhibition space. In addition, 600 of Keele’s 2,000 overnight rooms have been refurbished and the university has rolled out free Wi-Fi across campus for all visitors.

Enjoy Staffordshire judges commented: “Keele has demonstrated an excellent ongoing programme of improvement to keep this venue at the forefront of its sector. All three key areas of accommodation, facilities and technology have had recent developments and upgrades. The training provided for staff is exceptional.”
