Wirral-based catering company, Pickled Walnut, has secured a catering contract at one of Liverpool’s landmark buildings, The Florence Institute.

The company will manage all the hospitality including the café and events catering at the venue, known locally as ‘The Florrie’, in the Dingle.

Built in 1889, The Florrie is believed to be the oldest surviving boys club in the UK and closed in 1988. It re-opened in April last year after restoration and repair to the fire-damaged building. HRH The Prince of Wales officially opened the restored Florrie in January this year.

The new venture will see the creation of nine jobs.

“The Florrie is a social gem, lovingly restored to serve the South Liverpool community,” says Pickled Walnut Brand Director, Jamie Anderson. “We are delighted to be joining the team and plan to build a stand-alone business from The Florrie operating alongside our existing core business.”

Established six years ago, Pickled Walnut now employs 24 full-time staff and 42 part-time and recently launched an events management agency, Pickled Walnut Events.

The company caters for 21 venues throughout the north west including Caldy Golf Club, Wirral; Liverpool Town Hall; St George’s Hall, Liverpool; Combermere Abbey, Whitchurch; Hoghton Tower, Blackpool and Manchester Cathedral.
