The OXO Tower was buzzing with life 25 September, as 200 event professionals and press bid farewell to summer at the first South Bank Venues Late Summer Party, taking place at OXO2, a new event space on the second floor of the iconic landmark.

Formed in 2010, South Bank Venues is a collective of the most iconic venues and attractions in the South Bank, such as the London Eye, National Theatre, BFI Southbank and Southbank Centre.

Staying true to the creative buzz and sophisticated vibe of the area, guests were treated to an array of entertainment, including live jazz, a caricaturist, a spa corner and the unique skills of a pop-up poet.

Froniga Lambert, Chair of South Bank Venues and Head of Development & Commercial Events at Southbank Centre, said: “We are delighted with the turnout this evening and the great array of events professionals who have taken the time to attend. It’s been a perfect way for us and our members to say goodbye to a glorious summer on the South Bank, and look ahead to all that we have to offer in the winter.”

As the party kicked off, a selection of innovative canapés were served by Midlands-based caterers Xclusive Hospitality. Menu highlights included Ham Hock Terrine with Piccalilliand Spiced Duck Breast with Gingerbread and Coriander pesto.

Jaume Beauto, Head Bartender at Gillray’s Bar, located in Marriott Hotel County Hall, treated guests to the exclusive cocktail The Celtic Explorer, prepared with Gillray’s Gin of the Month Caorunn Gin with Velvet Falernum, fresh ginger, orange juice and lemon juice accompanied by Kamm & Sons Ginseng spirit.

The evening also saw a jazz permance from acclaimed musician and entertainer Daniel Benisty, who played with his jazz trio. Benisty is a pianist, bandleader and musical director whose experience spans from playing in top clubs – such as Ronnie Scotts – cruise ships, at major festivals and private events.

As swinging tunes flowed through the venue, so did poet, playwright and permer Alex Gwyther. Whilst creating impromptu pieces of poetry for guests, Alex also collected their cherished memories from South Bank, from which he tailored a bespoke poem permed at the end of the night.
