London events and conference venue, Grand Connaught Rooms, has been selected for the European Poker Tour’s (EPT) London Poker Festival, which will feature a £50,000 Super High Roller event for the first time and is expected to attract over 6,000 international players.

The Grand Connaught Rooms, part of the PH Hotels group, was selected as the venue for the event due to its location in the heart of London and with its close links to Heathrow airport, Euston, Kings Cross and St Pancras stations, says the venue.

Last season’s London Poker Festival attracted 2,000 players and paid out more than £8m in prizes. This year, the UK and Ireland Poker Tour £1,100 Main Event will kick off proceedings on 2 October, while the six-day £5,250 EPT Main Event runs from 6-12 October.

Sergio Aido from Spain, and Dutch pro Ruben Visser, were last season’s UKIPT and EPT Main Event champions who topped fields of 1,098 and 646 players respectively to take home £144,555 and £595,000.

“We were delighted to host the London leg of the European Poker Tour and believe the Grand Hall within the Grand Connaught Rooms is ideal for one of the UK’s largest poker festivals,” GM of the Grand Connaught Rooms, Murray Wilson, said. “We have hosted many high profile events in recent years including Britain’s Got Talent, the Elle Style Awards, the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Premier, the MOBO nominations and the FA’s 150 year anniversary celebrations, and are looking forward to welcoming the EPT players to the Grand Connaught Rooms.”
