The Best Western Cresta Court Hotel in Altrincham has launched its new electric car recharging point with a little help from ZOE, the flagship of Renault’s Z.E (Zero Emissions) range and the world’s first 100 per cent purpose-designed electric supermini.

The hotel will include free car recharging in its summer residential and day meeting rates.

Best Western Cresta Court Hotel says the installation of the recharging point supports its bid to boost its ’green’ business credentials and is part of a national initiative from Best Western UK and green charity Zero Carbon World. Best Western UK now has 70 of the charging stations, which allow eco-friendly electric car owners to charge up their car’s battery by plugging into the power point, installed at its UK hotels.

Working alongside Zero Carbon World, Best Western has pledged that its ’green’ campaign will roll out to include half of its 260 hotels by September.

In related news, QHotels, a collection of 21 hotels, is now offering a new eco experience for businesses, giving its delegates the chance to provide electricity for their meetings through pedal power.

In a bid to boost delegates’ eco credentials, the hotel group is trialling its ’Pedal Power’ eco initiative at Forest Pines Hotel and Golf Resort near Lincolnshire in an attempt to hit QHotels’ annual energy reduction target.

Delegates will be required to continuously pedal with the bicycle generator to convert 100 watts of energy in order to power enough electricity to charge a laptop.

“At QHotels we are committed to saving energy and providing an environmentally-friendly setting for guests and delegates,” says QHotels’ Director of Property, Philip King. “We have listened to delegates feedback and, given that environmental issues are high on the agenda for our delegates, we ensure we try new initiatives and find ways to support their aims as well as our own.”

Last year, QHotels installed electric car charging posts at six hotels and signed up to WRAP’s Hospitality and Food Service Agreement, which aims to cut food and associated packaging waste throughout the UK.
