Thirty conference and event planners from agencies in the North West met recently at The Monastery in Manchester and were hosted by Paul Griffiths, the High Sherriff of Greater Manchester, who revealed the fascinating story behind one of Manchester’s most unique venues.
Built between 1863 and 1872, The Monastery is Pugin’s architectural masterpiece and it sits alongside the Taj Mahal and the ancient ruins of Pompeii as having been listed in the 100 most endangered sites in the world. Following a £6.5m restoration scheme, The Monastery is now welcoming groups for corporate or social occasions.
On Monday 10 June, The Monastery hosted a showcase for independent venues, which was attended by over 30 venues from across the UK to meet with the North West Event Planners. The Independent Venue Showcase, run by CHS Group, is one of six showcases that the group are running in 2013 in strategic locations in England.
The evening commenced with a drinks reception in the garden followed by a mini exhibition of over 30 venues from a range of venues including five-star Rockliffe Hall Hotel Durham, The International Centre Telford, Warwick University, Drayton Manor, The Jockey Club and a selection of boutique hotels from Pride of Britain. The exhibition was followed by champagne and canapés in the garden and a welcome from Griffiths.
CHS Group are planning a further three events in the autumn.
