London event and hospitality space, Lord’s Cricket Ground, has launched a series of new initiatives to reinforced its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) credentials.
The initiatives include a focus on food traceability, a reduction in carbon emissions, and the introduction of a Community Development Manager role.
Lord’s remains one of the few sporting venues in the UK to be independent of outsourced management contracts for services such as catering. As such, all food suppliers are selected with an emphasis on their CSR credentials and with the minimum mileage possible in the supply chain.
Summer hospitality and meeting and events menus this year will use fruit and vegetables sourced through the ethical and sustainable supplier Fresh Direct, while meat will be provided by British Premium Meats.
The venue will also be reducing its environmental impact in 2013 by introducing a new filtration and water bottling system to enable the provision of still, bottled house waters. The introduction will help to reduce carbon emissions and will incorporate a recycling element. In addition, the use of stationery items made purely from recycled materials will be used at all future meetings and events functions.
Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), owner of Lord’s Cricket Ground, has also recently created a new Community Development Manager position. The new recruit will focus on creating an overarching community engagement plan aiming at increasing participation, and bringing health and educational benefits to disadvantaged members of the local community.
