Reed’s
Paris-based MIDEM division has acquired European Internet conference
and networking events business LeWeb for an undisclosed sum.

In a
statement, the organiser said the deal will give LeWeb the opportunity
to develop its events portfolio while strengthening Reed MIDEM’s
interest in digital innovation.

LeWeb was launched in Paris in
2004 by Loic and Geraldine Le Meur and brings together global players in
the international Internet community including entrepreneurs,
technology businesses, investors and venture capitalists. The event
brand is based around an annual event in Paris, most recently held on
4-6 December and attended by 3,500 people.

The business
supplemented this with the launch of a London event in June 2012, which
is scheduled to return on 5-6 June 2013. The venue has not been
confirmed.

“LeWeb fits very well with Reed MIDEM,” Reed MIDEM’s
CEO Paul Zilk said. “We share the same ambition for developing premium
international events where participants network and build relationships,
do business, launch new products and discover the latest innovations.

“LeWeb’s
strong position in digital innovation and entrepreneurship is relevant
to Reed MIDEM events and to the global portfolio of our group, Reed
Exhibitions. We see many opportunities and synergies between our shows
and LeWeb.”

LeWeb’s Le Meur said Reed MIDEM was an ideal partner, bringing resources and expertise to help grow its events.

“LeWeb’s
development has been incredible since 2005 and we needed a partner such
as Reed MIDEM to make it even more successful,” he said.
