The Midland Hotel in Manchester is teaming up with chef and restaurateur Simon Rogan who will give a new look for property’s The French restaurant and The Colony Bar.

Manchester currently does not have any Michelin Star restaurants, although The French was one of the first establishments to be awarded one back in 1974. The Midland, managed by conference hotel specialist QHotels, lies at the heart of Manchester’s ‘conference quarter’ and Michael Purtill, Managing Director of QHotels, announced the new partnership contract for chef and restaurateur Simon Rogan to take over management of the two restaurants. The deal follows a £400k investment in the hotel’s food and beverage offering.

Rogan’s own L’Enclume restaurant in Cartmel, Cumbria, was awarded a second Michelin star, and a full ‘10 out of 10’ Good Food Guide rating this autumn, as well as retaining five AA Restaurant Guide Rosettes.

“I have always loved Manchester; it’s like being in London, but on a smaller scale,” said Rogan. “It’s trendy and dynamic, but very accessible and friendly. Overall, the Manchester dining scene has been quite casual and bar-driven, but this is a great opportunity to set the trend for luxury dining, and the city is definitely ready for it.”

Purtill said: “Since The Midland opened its doors, in 1903, food has very much been top of the agenda. Simon is a culinary genius, and we’re really proud to be associated with one of the UK’s finest chefs.  This partnership marks a new chapter for the hotel.”

Mike Magrane, GM The Midland, said: “The next few months are going to be a very exciting time. We’ve always been extremely proud of our food offering at The Midland, but working with someone so highly regarded as Simon is yet again giving us that edge which people will struggle to find elsewhere in the city.”
