Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre (NEC) hosted the first ever Skills Show on 15-17 November and welcomed an ’out of this world’ guest in the form of Virgin Galactic and its genre defining space craft ’SS2’.

The event, attended by 70,000 visitors, provided an opportunity to learn more about vocational courses and apprenticeships, and Virgin Galactic’s spaceship was used as a visual reminder of how boundaries can be pushed to achieve more.

The partnership with Virgin Galactic will see the replica spacecraft hosted exclusively at The NEC for the next six months.

“We are always looking for exciting and innovative ways to delight both clients and their visitors to the NEC, and our collaboration with Virgin Galactic is another example of bringing something that little bit extra to the table,” says MD of the NEC, Kathryn James. “This venue is known as ’the Place to Discover the Future’, and we have showcased some important glimpses of the future through activities such as launches of future products and services, including the Land Rover Evoke and the 4G network EE.

“We’re convinced the life-sized replica of the Virgin Galactic SS2 will help inspire the scientists, mathematicians and engineers of tomorrow,” she adds.
