VisitBrighton Convention Bureau, in partnership with the Brighton Dome, has won its bid to host the second annual conference of the International Association of Youth Mental Health (IAYMH).
Previously held in Melbourne, Australia in 2010 IAYMH’s Professional Conference Organiser, Ronan Flood of Advantage ICO chose Brighton for its vibrancy, array of cultural attractions and its close proximity to mainland Europe’s transport hubs. The decision to hold the conference in the UK was made after the success of the Olympics and Paralympics 2012.
The event will be held at the Brighton Dome, which encompasses three historic venues forming part of the Royal Pavilion Estate, from 30 September – 2 October 2013, and is expected to attract up to 1,000 delegates and bring £1.5m of economic benefit to Brighton and Hove.
“This is a great win for Brighton,” says VisitBrighton’s Convention Bureau Sales Manager, Darren Johnson. “We’ve been working hard to secure a greater range of international events for the city and this is a significant one to add to our expanding list of successes. This win is testament to the great package we’re able to offer and hopefully a sign of the much anticipated Olympics legacy for the UK.”
The IAYMH conference will mark the official launch of the organisation, which was formed in 2010 as a membership body for professionals, researchers, policy makers, young people and families, involved in the mental health field.
