Lancashire County Cricket Club (CCC) has appointed Daniel Gidney as its new Chief Executive.

Gidney’s last day as CEO of the Ricoh Arena in Coventry was 19 October and he will replace Lancashire CCC veteran Chief Executive Jim Cumbes, who is retiring at the end of the year.

During six years at the helm of the Ricoh Arena, home of Coventry City FC, Gidney was responsible for attracting several high-profile sporting, music and business events, including the Olympic Games (football) and the Rugby World Cup.

Gidney’s departure comes after rumours that League One football team Coventry City FC had been seeking a reduction in stadium rent from Arena Coventry (ACL).  His exit follows the departure of ACL Chairman David Allvey in May.

Current ACL Chairman Nicholas Carter said: “After six successful years with us, Daniel is moving on.

“We have achieved a great deal during Daniel’s time with us, growing the network of businesses and organisations who call the arena home. We wish him all the best.

“Our focus is now to recruit the right person to take the helm to lead us in the next stage in the life of the Ricoh Arena, building on the strong community we have here.”

Jacky Isaac, Managing Director of IEC Experience and Human Resources Director for Arena Coventry, takes over as Interim CEO while a permanent replacement is recruited.

Carter said: “We are fortunate to have such a high calibre team working at the Ricoh Arena that Jacky can step up to fill Daniel’s shoes while we recruit a suitable replacement.

“It’s very much business as usual at the Ricoh Arena, and Jacky and her team will be continuing Daniel’s work to position the Ricoh as a world-class destination for business, entertainment and sport.”

Meanwhile, at Lancashire CCC’s conference and banqueting venue, The Point, the designs by the Manchester studio of architects BDP has led to a nomination for the lighting design category shortlist at the forthcoming FX International Interior Design Awards.

The Point Sales Manager, Peter Ash, said: “We worked very closely with the team from BDP at the initial design stage and we are delighted to hear that they have been shortlisted for this impressive award.

“Visitors often comment on the amazing lighting and the versatility it brings to the suite.”
