The Lensbury Conference Centre’s investment in charitable projects, including cash to support charities and local children keen to take up sport, has led to the venue being recognised at the Richmond Business Awards 2012 for Best Achievement in Corporate Social Responsibility.

One of the largest employers in London’s Teddington area, the Lensbury impressed judges with its approach to “environmental impact, supply chain management and diversity in the workplace”.

CEO Lacy Curtis-Ward, said: “The majority of our staff and our members live locally which is why we take local corporate social responsibility so seriously. Over the last few years we have invested over £8.5m into the business and it is a priority going forward to continue to engage with as many local stakeholders as possible”.

The Lensbury’s water sports team works with Richmond Council to support schools to enter the London Youth Games and also helps train the borough sailing and kayaking teams.

The venue on the bank of the Thames also runs after school 10-week sailing and kayaking courses during the summer term for school children.

“We will continue this work in the future and we believe it is one of our contributions to the Olympic Legacy for the Borough,” said Curtis-Ward.

The Lensbury regularly opens its conference rooms for the community, including its 200-seat Riverside Pavilion, which was recently used by The Jeevika Trust and Project le Monde.

“Our contribution to fundraising has generated over £100,000 for charities,” Curtis-Ward pointed out.
