Nick Grecian, Managing Director of events crewing firm Gallowglass, took part in a descent from the roof of Twickenham Stadium, home of English rugby, on 5 October in a bid to raise funds for the Commando Spirit Appeal on behalf of The Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund (RMCTF).

Grecian was one of four events industry ’commandos’ taking part; joining him on the drop were RPM Partners, Hugh Robertson and Lee Farrant, and Justin Hughes, Managing Director of Mission Excellence.

The four abseiled 39m into the world famous ’bowl’ at Twickenham Stadium as part of ’Take The Leap’, the latest challenge in the Commando Spirit Appeal series of events, which aims to raise £1m for the RMCTF by 2014.

They were joined by England Rugby World Cup winner, Andy Gomarsall MBE, and injured former Royal Marine, turned motivational speaker, Andrew Grant. Royal Marines shadowed each fundraiser throughout their challenge, giving them a taste of what it takes to be a Royal Marine Commando.

“When I heard about the Commando Spirit Appeal, I thought it was a fantastic idea,” said Grecian. “Taking part in ’Take The Leap’ at Twickenham was one of the most terrifying and exhilarating experiences of my life but importantly it will help raise a fantastic sum of money for a worthwhile cause.”

Brigadier Mark Nobel, Chief Executive of RMCTF, added: “We are delighted to be part of this unique event. The funds generated will go a long way towards assisting our efforts in supporting the Royal Marines Corps Family.”
