Harrogate International Centre (HIC) Deputy Director Simon Kent has welcomed British Airways’ decision to launch four flights to Leeds Brard International Airport (LBIA) per day from Heathrow as of December 2012.
Kent claims the move will cut journey times to the Yorkshire spa town from London to two hours.
“The news is fantastic,” says Kent. “The flights are extremely well timed for commuters and mean delegates will be able to attend an HIC event for the day very easily.
“HIC is well serviced by road and train and now we can boast excellent airport links, which means when you hold an event here you not only benefit from a wonderful destination you can now get here easier than ever before.”
LBIA has undergone a major transformation in the last few months which has seen more than £11m spent on improving its terminal.
Monarch Airlines has named LBIA as its sixth UK base which will mean that 13 new European routes will open up in the summer 2013.
HIC has yet to name a new Director, following the departure of Angus Houston in June.
