The NEC has won its bid to host RenewableUK’s annual conference and exhibition for the first time, in November 2013.

RenewableUK, a trade and professional body for the UK wind and marine renewables industries, chooses a different British city each year to host the event organised by the British Wind Energy Association, and this year’s event in Birmingham is expected to attract 5,000 visitors.

Marketing Birmingham, the city’s strategic marketing partnership, played a key role in securing the event, which will run from 5-7 November 2013 and will incorporate a Gala Dinner in the city centre, as well as a conference, exhibition and careers fair at the NEC. Almost 300 companies active in the UK wind, wave and tidal energy sector will exhibit.

“We attract global visitors from our nearly 700 strong corporate members which makes Birmingham and the NEC’s central location, with its close proximity to the airport and other transport links perfect for our needs,” says Director of Events, Marketing and Membership, Renewable UK, Garth Halliday.

David Gallagher, Account Manager at the NEC, adds: “We are thrilled to have been chosen to host this event, which sees the NEC fast becoming the home of shows with a green and sustainable focus.”

The NEC has three events with a green and sustainability agenda taking place in September: Recycling and Waste Management, The Energy Event and new show, The Renewables Event.

Ian Taylor, Commercial Director, Marketing Birmingham, says: “Birmingham has identified the low carbon and renewables sector as an area of strength and potential growth. Hosting this exhibition serves to highlight the importance of our business tourism and inward investment programmes joining forces to generate new national and international business for the city.”
