Former Glasgows Head of Business Development George Thompson and Business Development Manager Amanda Gilmour have launched start up agency Mammoth Events.

Manchester-based Mammoth Events’ business model includes remote working for all staff on cloud based systems, while using freelancers and production companies to deliver key elements of each project. The agency says the approach will allow it to offer high quality product for greatly reduced cost alongside tremendous environmental benefits.

“With the UK falling even deeper into recession, we’re seeing budgets shrinking or even frozen, while expectations are ever increasing,” says Thompson. “Thus, we need to find ways of squeezing even more value out of every single pound. We’ve examined the market, developments in communications and technology and with no historical baggage we are in a position where we can do something very special.”

Gilmour adds that the traditional ‘everything under one roof’ model means that there is always pressure to utilise inhouse resource. “We don’t have those pressures,” she notes. “We have the freedom to pick and choose suppliers who best fit each project. Between us we’ve produced events at the very highest level including the HRH launch of a nuclear submarine, the Trades Union Congress and the Turner Prize, so we know we have the experience and the connections to deliver.”

Mammoth Events will focus on conferences, awards ceremonies, launches and exhibitions and, with the production of two brand activations for a TV show as well as several corporate projects under their belt, the agency has had a solid start.

Thompson adds: “We’ve set modest targets for our first 12 months but we’re already well ahead of plan. We’ve secured several key projects that will be delivered in the final quarter of 2012 and we’ll be looking to recruit in early 2013.”

Prior to establishing Mammoth Events, Thompson helped reposition Glasgows following public sector cuts and oversaw a number of large account wins including: BAE Systems, Lyreco, National Union of Teachers and Police Federation of England & Wales.

Gilmour joined him at Glasgows in March 2011 and the pair had previously worked together for five years at Comtec Presentations.
