De Vere Venues’ new multi-million pound hotel resort in north Edinburgh will replace Helix House, an office complex that dates back to 1987 but has been lying empty for several years, according to The Scotsman.

Over 120 jobs will be created when the De Vere Group opens its first venture in the capital, and it will be a major boost for the city’s tourism industry.

The £20m De Vere development will feature a 120-room hotel, health and leisure complex and conference centre. Facilities will include a swimming pool, restaurant, bar and Starbucks café.

“Edinburgh is a high-priority location for us and we are excited to be bringing the ’village urban resorts’ concept to the city,” said Chief Executive of De Vere Village Urban Resorts, Robert Cook

“The selected site is predominately located in north Edinburgh and our new village urban resort will be a positive landmark building in this prominent location.”

Ian Kettlewell, Associate Director of planning consultants Nathaniel Lichfield, added: “This new development will regenerate an important site, removing a building that has been vacant for a number of years. The new resort will create 120 jobs, offering significant training opportunities and boost the local economy.”
