UK hotel chain, QHotels, has signed up to WRAP’s Hospitality and Food Service Agreement with the aim of cutting food and associated packaging waste throughout the UK.
The new agreement will see QHotels and WRAP, a body set up to help recycling take off in the UK and create a market for recycled materials, work closely to accelerate the good practice that has already been put in place through collaborative working and behaviour change.
“One of the big challenges the Hospitality and Food Service sector currently faces, as identified by WRAP’s research, is tackling the vast amount of food and packaging waste it produces and currently disposes of to landfill each year,” says CEO at WRAP, Liz Goodwin.
WRAP will provide each hotel in the collection with the necessary support it needs to meet its business objectives by providing online tools, workshops, working groups and expert advice.
QHotels has been awarded eight Gold Awards, with The Cambridge Belfry recently being awarded, and 14 Silver Awards from The Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS), the national sustainable certification programme.
“We continue to invest money into our 21 hotels to help improve our customers’ experience,” says Managing Director at QHotels, Michael Purtill. “We are committed to our environmental responsibilities and believe this partnership will allow us to grow further and remain a sustainable business.”
