I have just read Doug Keeley’s blog on How Winston Churchill can help you with your presentation.

I agree with everything Doug says especially his comments on the need for preparation and rehearsal. He says that ‘Many executives feel they don’t need rehearsals or preparation…’.

When I was involved as a client and then as a writer of conferences, my point was always ‘How much is the event costing? Isn’t it worth taking the time to make sure the money is well spent? If you won’t rehearse, you could be wasting cash because the event won’t be as effective as it should be.’

The other points that I used to mention as well were that, if you expected people to give up their time and travel to the venue, the least the speaker could do was give them the courtesy of being properly prepared.

Finally, I would appeal to their vanity: if you rehearse properly, you stand a much better chance of being a hero on stage.
