As the London 2012 Olympic Games get underway, I just want to take a few minutes to dedicate and appreciate all the various different parties that have contributed in one form or another to make it a reality.

From Ken Livingstone, who was the driving force in ensuring that the games came to London four or so years ago, to Boris Johnson and the entire Olympic planning committee who kept the flame alive and ensured that the Olympic park was built and preparations for the games were in place. To the many hotels and venues set aside to house and host the many countries and nationalities descending upon London this summer for the Games, I say a massive kudos to you all.

As an event planner, I know the complexities that go into juggling different aspects of an event, from developing the concept, setting the budget, dealing with the logistics, liaising with speakers and suppliers to actually seeing the event unfold, the tasks can seem somewhat endless on a small scale not to talk of hosting/organising an event of Olympic proportions (literally), that has so many moving parts!

As the eyes of the various nations of the world turn to London and the games this summer, let us spare a thought for all those working behind the scenes to make the London Olympics a success, from the planning committees, to the numerous volunteers to the venues and hotels, the production teams and the security personnel manning the various centres to the awarding bodies, judges, coaches and  the athletes (without whom we will not have the games), I appreciate and salute you all and say keep up the good work and, all the best in your endeavours as the games commence.

Finally, this will not be complete without giving a shout out to Team GB! All I can say is ‘go get ‘em’!
